RuPaul’s Drag Race has always pulled out the stops when it comes to guest judges, but nothing could’ve prepared the new queens for what would happen when pop phenomenon Ariana Grande walked into the Werk Room. In the past, Drag Race has seen superstars like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga entering the Werk Room with the queens. Nicki Minaj was also the guest judge of the Drag Race season 12 premiere. This is Ariana’s second appearance on the reality competition series, although her fame has skyrocketed since her guest spot in Drag Race season 7.
The queens of Drag Race season 15 had nothing but positive things to say about their experience with Ariana, according to their interview with E! News. Drag legend Sasha Colby said, “[Ariana] was actually our safety net. She was actually the most comforting thing that day.” Another Drag Race season 15 queen, Princess Poppy, said, “It was like living in a dream. It was so surreal.” Irene Dubois even claimed that Ariana was just as excited to be there as the queens were to have her, adding, “She was just as starstruck to meet us as we were to meet her.”

Ariana Grande Feels ‘Invested’ In RuPaul’s Drag Race
Beyond being a fan of Drag Race, Ariana apparently was able to give the queens some advice. Salina EsTitties said, “She was really able to walk us through this journey, having been there herself.” Sugar and Spice, biological twins who are both competing in Drag Race season 15, also had fond memories of meeting Ariana. Spice explained, “You can fully tell she’s very invested and a true fan.” Her twin, Sugar, said, “It was so cool to realize her actual love for drag is genuine.”
Drag Race season 15 is Ariana’s second time on the judging panel, so it doesn’t come as a huge surprise to hear that she is a big fan of the show. Many of the queens cited Ariana as one of their favorite artists, so it must have been extra surreal to have her there in person. Fans have speculated that the first episode will probably end with a Drag Race lip-sync to one of Ariana’s hit songs. Ariana judges both parts of the two-part RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 premiere.
Drag Race season 15 marks a big milestone for the show, as it has moved to MTV, having previously aired on VH1. MTV has established itself as a juggernaut of reality TV, so fans can only assume this move is a good thing for the franchise. Prior to VH1, Drag Race aired on Logo, but the fan base has exploded since then. With the influx of international Drag Race seasons, there has been some fatigue from the fans, but that could all change with a certified superstar like Ariana opening Drag Race season 15. RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 also ushered in the largest cast in the show’s history, with a record 16 queens.
