Scarlett Johansson told reporters at the CFDA Awards that she was not happy with her new brunette hairdo, dyed for her part in The Nanny Diaries. “I’m just waiting to get back to blonde,” she said. Former Topshop brand director Jane Shepherdson was named as a board member and productive advisor for ethical label People Tree – and was quick to question the public’s attitude towards disposable fashion.
“We should always question if something is very, very cheap and think that if you, the consumer, aren’t paying for it, then someone, somewhere down the line is paying,” she said. The craze in New York had changed from a Brazilian bikini wax to sticking Swarovski crystals where there once was nothing. “It looks fantastic,” owner of Madison Avenue’s Completelybare salon, Cindy Barshop said.
She was credited with starting the craze and said: “Everybody’s doing it. I’m opening another venue to cope with demand.” The story went that a rock star client came to Cindy last August with a request for something really special for her wedding day, and together they came up with Completelybare With A Flair.
“It’s just crazy,” Cindy went on. “We’re doing about 300 a week and have a waiting list of two to three weeks.” The procedure cost $105 and involved a full wax before crystals were applied in the design of the customer’s choice.
