Movies about bachelor and bachelorette parties gone wrong are nothing new, so this team has certainly kicked things up a gear and put the racy in R rated. While usually she is fighting baddies or starring in cult favorites, Scarlett Johansson is now bringing an all-star cast of ready to party ladies for her new film Rough Night.
The first trailer for the bacherlorette comedy dropped on Wednesday and promised to tick off all the naughty genre’s boxes and does so with a lot of F bombs. Scarlett stars as bride-to-be Jess who meets up with her group of one-time closest friends to mark her last days as a single woman in Miami.
Having grown apart and gone their separate ways, her rag tag party crew are determined to make their getaway one to remember. Leading the big bash is inappropriate bestie Alice played by Jillian Bell who has recruited Jess’ other friends played by Kate McKinnon, Ilana Glazer, Zoe Kravitz to send the bride-to-be off in style and try to reconnect as a group at the same time.
Alice promises Jess a weekend filled with men and fun or as she says, ‘there are going to be so many hot Miami babes were going to be slimming in girl’. And her plans almost work with the first half of the trailer filled with all the bachelorette fun you would expect – penis crowns, sashes and lost of drinks.
Despite a small hiccup that involves throwing up a shot, the friends have a great night and even get in some choreographed dancing and are given cocaine by a bus boy. But it is not the drugs or the drinking that changes the night it it when they decided to top the night with a bachelorette must – a male stripper – things go south fast.
All seems well as the hunk rips off his top and grinds on Scarlett’s Jess. But getting excited to see ‘the beans’, Jillian’s enthusiastic Jess decides to launch herself on to the stripper sending them both tumbling to the ground. The man strikes his head and dies instantly but instead of calling authorities the quartet panic.
The foursome stash the body in a sex swing in a wardrobe before Zoe’s character calls her uncle who is lawyer. He tells them it is an accident so they will be fine – unless they touched the body. Facing 15 years in prison for moving the dead man, the women come up with a scheme to cover up what they did.
Somehow that scheme involves guns, explosions, car chases and jet ski crashes. Borrowing from Weekend At Bernie’s, the women and the dead man travel across Miami as they sill attempt to have ‘the best weekend of ourย lives.’ Rough Night also stars Ty Burrell and Demi Moore and is written by Broad City’s Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, who is also the director.
The R rated comedy is in theaters June 16. The trailer’s release comes as it is revealed that Scarlett’s husband Romain Dauriac’s was – according to his lawyer – ‘shocked’ by the star’s divorce filing and sees the move as a ‘pre-emptive strike’ in a battle over custody of the couple’s toddler daughter, Rose. Scarlett filed for divorce the day before saying the marriage was ‘irretrievably broken.’
