Dating back to a long-running comic strip by Charles Addams in 1938, the satirical suburban family have since graced the screen on numerous occasions. In 1964, a television show about the macabre crew ran in black and white for two seasons on ABC. The Addams family appeared again in a TV Halloween movie and a 1973 animated series. One of the most popular on-screen depictions of the Addamses occurred with 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values, in which Christina Ricci played the role of brooding daughter Wednesday. Since then, another animated series and live-action film, a Broadway musical, and two more animated movies have brought the gothic family to life.

Zeta-Jones will be able to bring something new to the role and portray Morticia facing a challenge familiar to all parents: watching her daughter grow up and move further away from her. The story details for Wednesday so far include the Addams family daughter trying to master her powers while dealing with a mysterious series of murders surrounding her high school.
