Christina Ricci praises Jenny Ortega and her lead character in the upcoming Wednesday TV series. The Tim Burton-helmed TV show revisits cartoonist Charles Addams’ beloved fictional Addams Family, this time focusing on their gothic teenage daughter Wednesday Addams, played by Scream’s Ortega. As reported previously, Ortega stars alongside a top-tier cast in Wednesday. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, George Burcea, and Victor Dorobantu are playing the Addams family members Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Lurch, and Thing, respectively, with Riki Lindhome, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, and Emma Myers portraying faculty members and students at Nevermore. In March, news broke out that Ricci joined the Wednesday show cast after having played Wednesday in Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1991 The Addams Family movie and in its 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values, although the specifics for her role weren’t disclosed.
From the start, Ricci has been extremely supportive of Ortega’s Wednesday series, including its premise and characters. Previously, she had mentioned that she had an amazing time working with Christie and Ortega. Now, Ricci’s new statements supplement her previous claims. Since her version of Wednesday is so iconic even today, Ricci certainly knows what fans love about the Addams family daughter. Hence, her staunch support for Ortega’s interpretation proves the new Wednesday incorporates all the essential elements from the original cartoonist’s vision. All the modifications seemingly seek to improve the story and viewers’ perception of the protagonist, although more will become clear once the Wednesday show trailer releases.
