Netflix’s show Wednesday features all the iconic Addams family members except one, and there is a reason why Grandmama is not in Wednesday. Tim Burton directed Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character Wednesday Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Wednesday also has appearances from Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and the youngest Addams Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). Instead of rebooting older stories of the Addams Family, Wednesday follows Wednesday Addams as she navigates her new life at Nevermore Boarding school. A more twisted version of coming-of-age comedies, Wednesday explores new relationships while also fighting a serial killer monster and the dark secrets of her new school.
Grandmama’s Flashback Cameo In Wednesday Explained
Grandmama’s cameo is hard to spot in Wednesday but comes when Wednesday is telling Eugene about her birthdays as a child. Wednesday says her parents used to get her the “perfect cake” and the flashback shows a young Wednesday with a cake that has a small guillotine on it that chops a figurine’s head off. There are also figures of all her family, including Grandmama. This, along with Wednesday recalling her Grandmama’s advice, shows Grandmama does exist in the Wednesday adaptation, and looks similar to other adaptations of Grandmama.
Will Grandmama Appear In Wednesday Season 2?
There has been no official decision from Netflix about whether Wednesday will receive a second season, and it will most likely be based on the success of season 1. Also, Tim Burton’s co-creator, Alfred Gough, has addressed the potential for a second season that could “explore more in the world of the Addamses” (via ScreenRant). Season one of Wednesday has already touched on Morticia and Gomez’s past so future seasons would be expected to develop the Addams family even further.
